How can colon Hydrotherapy help?
Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle internal bathing of the colon using warm purified water that helps to eliminate stored fecal matter, gas, mucus and toxic substances from the colon. Colon hydrotherapy helps to increase the tone of the colon and reshape it, restoring its efficiency as an organ of elimination. Colon Hydrotherapy has a much broader effect than just the cleansing of the colon, additional benefits can be observed throughout the body in the form of improvement in circulatory, immune and weight problems, clearer skin, increased energy and more mental clarity. Many people are referred to colonics by alternative therapy practitioners, such as naturopathic doctors, homeopaths, acupuncturists, etc. By detoxifying the system, these therapies tend to be more effective.
What is involved?
On your initial visit a detailed case history is taken, followed by an explanation of the procedure. We advise that you come in at least 15 minutes before your initial appointment in order to fill out the forms. The colonic itself will take about 30 – 45 minutes during which time water will be gently introduced into the colon via the rectum whilst your therapist uses special massage techniques to stimulate the release of stored matter. Your modesty is preserved at all times.
Is it safe?
Yes? The water is introduced at a low gravitational pressure. All equipment used are one time use, disposables.Colonic hydrotherapy, unlike the use of laxatives, is not habit forming and actually improves the tone of the colon.
Will colon Hydrotherapy fix my bowel and indigestion?
Colon Hydrotherapy is a powerful tool that gives you a head start in improving your diet, lifestyle and exercise regime. However a tool is only as good as the person using it. If you use colon Hydrotherapy to help your body improve, feel younger and work more effectively, then that is what you will achieve. However, if you use colon Hydrotherapy as roadside assistance only, then you will achieve a short-term rather than a long-term improvement.
Does it hurt?
The procedure itself does not cause pain. At the start of the procedure you may experience a “strange” sensation of wanting to go to the toilet, but most people get used to this feeling in the first few minutes, and even find the colonic treatment “unexpectedly relaxing”.
How many treatments do I need?
It all depends on your condition and on the results of the first colonic. If a condition has been building up for years, it is very unlikely that it will disappear completely after a few minutes of cleansing, but most people feel improvements after the very first session.
If you go on our maintenance programme between treatments, and you adopt dietary and lifestyle modifications, if they are required, then the number of colonics will be reduced, and the periods between colonics will be longer. However if you find it easier to come to Labalaba Wellness Centre, get on with the treatment, and forget all about it till next time, we would recommend more frequent treatments, to maintain a higher level of health.
Will I lose weight?
Possibly. Do bear in mind that you lose wastes only, not fat or cellulite. If you start eating less, increase your fibre intake, move around more, chew foods longer and drink more water, then you will achieve the weight loss.
How will I feel after the treatment?
Most people feel energised immediately and are able to continue with their daily activities, go back to work etc., some people will feel tired in a nice way, the same way one feels after a good workout, Some people feel lighter, some people feel very hungry, some people don’t feel like eating for several hours after the treatment.
In some instances people may feel quite tired as the detoxification process kicks in deeper, and in these instances we recommend coming for a repeat colonic without delay.
We do not recommend eating heavy food or drinking alcohol, coffee or tea for 48 to 72 hours after the treatment, to get the full benefit of the detoxification process.
Why do you recommend supplements after a Colon Hydrotherapy treatment?
In an ideal world we would live on naturally fertile farmland and eat organic freshly cut vegetables, berries and fruit, fish from the river, natural live yoghurt etc and there would be no need for any supplements. However, in the real world of convenience foods, processed foods, we do need to assist our bodies to self-cleanse, hence the need for supplementation.
What supplements would you recommend for maintenance between Colon Hydrotherapy treatments?
Probiotic supplements are recommended to give the good bacteria a head start. Good bacteria populate our bowels and that ensures absorption by the body of essential nutrients and vitamins from our food. “Supplements are needed to carry beneficial bacteria into the intestine to re-establish a healthy colony. The role of these Bifidobacteria is to increase acidity by producing lactic acid and acetic acid, and to inhibit undesirable micro-organisms that would compete against them… Tissues densely covered with beneficial organisms provide an effective blocking mechanism, deterring invading pathogens”. Patrick Holford- author “Optimum Nutritional Bible”
A couple of supplements will cost you per day far less than a cup of coffee, a pint of lager or a glass of wine. Once you have invested a considerable sum of money into having a colonic, then low-cost maintenance definitely makes sense. Other supplements such as Bentonite clay and Physllium fibre improve bowel tone, cleanse bowel walls, bulk up the stool, remove gases and provide quality and regularity of elimination. We normally recommend only one or at most two supplements at a time, for relatively short periods of time, to help your body start working more efficiently.
Can I have Colon Hydrotherapy while I am having a period?
Yes you can. Do make sure you have a spare tampon or towel that you can use immediately after the treatment.
Can I have Colon Hydrotherapy while I am pregnant?
We at Labalaba Wellness Centre do not recommend Colon Hydrotherapy during pregnancy, because of the amount of toxins liberated during a colonic, it may not be safe, especially if you have not detoxed prior to pregnancy.
How soon after childbirth can I have colon Hydrotherapy?
You can have Colon Hydrotherapy anywhere from 10 to 12 weeks after a regular childbirth. If however, you have had a caesarean section, your body will need to have recovered enough from the shock of child birth and you are fully healed, when in doubt, talk to your doctor or nurse.
